This hour long documentary celebrates the life and career of Lalo Guerrero, “The Father of Chicano music,” while documenting the contemporary history of Mexican Americans through his songs. Taped interviews with Linda Ronstadt, Paul Rodriguez, Edward James Olmos, Ry Cooder, UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta, Cheech Marin and others, describe the influence and impact of Lalo’s music from a personal and professional point of view. Taped re-enactments and historic news footage illustrate the times Lalo lived in and the music he wrote. Lalo also relays his story in his own words with compelling insight and humor. Rare photographs from the Guerrero Family Trust and clips of both television and live performances complete the film. |
